Property Assessments

How do we decide which control is best for you and your Property?

noxious weed Property Assessments

Each job requires an assessment of the property.  The assessment entails a walk through during which we examine all present plant species (native and noxious).  The noxious weed infestations and densities will be documented and photographed.  Other considerations are slope or steepness of the property, ecotype (forest, grassland or riparian), and access to the project area. Depending on these factors the project will be given a prescription for remediation.

    We assess the following categories:

    • Weed species identification
    • Infestation densities
    • Ecotype (range, forest, riparian)
    • Aspect (N,S,E,W facing)
    • Percent slope
    • Native vegetation
    • Tree density

    Prescriptions

WMA advocates integrated weed management, the idea that no one management tool is perfect but using a combination of management tools (Herbicide, Mechanical, Reseeding and Biological controls) will provide the best control of noxious weeds. Together we will decide the safest, most realistic options for your property.

    Multi-Year Approach

Unfortunately, weeds are persistent and weed seeds are viable, in most cases, for up to 3 to 5 years.  This means although we’ve treated the living weeds (and lowered that year’s seed production), there are other seeds already on the ground waiting to germinate and have the opportunity to grow.

In all herbicide applications, we recommend considering treatment for 3 to 5 years depending on the site.  Only treating weeds for one year will reduce an infestation but never eradicate it.  Using multiple treatments over at least 3 years will show huge reductions in noxious weeds and the number of treatments needed in future years.
